GUEST POST: How to Bag the Job with Your Blog by Lizzie Benton

Lizzie of Lizaboo has decided to grace my blog with a guest post all about getting hired with your blog. Here are her top tips:

How To Bag The Job With Your Blog
The New Year always makes us think of new goals and dreams that we would like to achieve for the year, and while some of them may be broken already (like quitting chocolate oops), often one of those resolutions can be a new job.
Last year I was eager for a career move, and despite being scared about entering a new industry and meeting new people, I took the leap and I’ve never looked back.
It wasn’t that I hated my old job but I just felt like I was stuck in a bit of job rut with no idea which direction I really wanted to go.
Opening up to exciting new opportunities and pushing myself was one of the best decisions I made, and it’s incredible to think just how much I’ve learnt already in such a short space of time.
Everyone goes through the doubt that they’re not good enough for their dream job, but it’s all a myth. (Unless of course your dream is to be an astronaut then you might need a rethink.)
But if you put your mind to it anything is possible.

No Videos Last Wednesday and This Sunday

So sorry for the no videos this past week. I have had a staph infection and it really ran me down this week (i.e. sleeping for the entire day at certain points). But I am on the mend (and antibioitics!) and will be filming again this week! Sorry for those (1 of you) looking forward to my videos!

The Scottsboro Boys

Originally, I wasn't going to write a post for this, but I honestly can't stop thinking about this play. It is one of those that hits you way after you've seen it, making you wish you had the money to go again.

The other night, a friend of mine from the US came to town and we went to see The Scottsboro Boys on its limited West End run. This stunning musical tells the story of nine black boys falsely accused of raping two white women in Scottsboro, Alabama in the 1930s. You can read more about the boys' true story here.

My Favorite Vloggers/Bloggers

Although things have been a bit slow lately, I am really excited to share some of my favorite bloggers and vloggers with you. Some are big, some are tiny...either way, they are people I enjoy reading! If you have any suggestions along these lines, give me a shout as I always love to discover new bloggers and YouTubers.

The Sprinkle of Glitter brand has always been one of my favorites. I have been watching Louise for several years now (I guess about three?) and she was one of my inspirations for starting a YouTube channel and blog this past year. Louise is hilarious and wonderfully easy to watch, and I've gotten a fair share of product recommendations off of her. She is one of the few people I choose to sponsor over and over because I love her content.

Doggie Photoshoot!

Way back in October, a wonderful young woman (wow, I sound old!) offered to take some photos of my shih tzu, Eugene. If you're a frequent reader of this blog, you may remember him from his favorite's post. Rael, the photographer, took some gorgeous shots of not only Eugene, but our landlord's dog, Moby (Euge's BFF). Unfortunately, in the new year, Eugene and Moby are going to be separated due to his owner moving overseas, so this was a great way to commemorate their friendship. Is it weird that it almost makes me cry? Anyway, Moby loves to ham it up for photoshoots, so he was a bit more ready to pose than Euge.

If you want to check out more of Rael's photos or book a shoot with her, you can go here. There will also be more ways to connect with her at the bottom of the post. She was absolutely excellent with the dogs and captured their personalities so incredibly well. We took the dogs around the neighborhood and they were themselves, and she captured it without being intrusive. I think they liked her! If you're interested in a shoot with her, she is located in Milton Keynes, which is about 35 minutes from Central London on the train. In case you're wondering, she does shoot both animals and people...and will shoot them together!

Eugene had a little eye infection the day of the shoot, but Rael managed to get around that as well.

GUEST POST: For the Love of Color by Renée Camus

Rounding out the last in my guest posting series (thank you so much ladies, seriously...you really made keeping up with blogging while recovering and playing catch up with my PhD work a cinch), I have Renée Camus from Geek Adjacent talking about the use of colors. Check it out!

***

I just returned from my niece’s wedding in Cancun, a beautiful destination wedding on the beach. It was lovely, and I’m so happy for her and her new husband. The ceremony took place at 4 p.m. on Saturday, just as the sun was beginning to set, and the color of the sky was absolutely gorgeous. It reminded me just how much I love color.
