Pinterest Fail Baking--Christmas Cookie Edition!

Katy of  Katy in Neverland (pay her YouTube and Blog a visit y'all!) and I decided to do a collaboration, even though we live thousands of miles apart. As many of you guys know, I love baking, but my baking never turns out looking as good as Pinterest people's. For example, compare the above to below:

Unfortunately, I wasn't even able to take a pretty DSLR photo, because the cookies got stuck to the pan and then crumbled. Yeah, it was a great idea not buttering the cookie sheets...oh, self. What will we do with you?

So how do you make these? It's quite simple, if you actually read the directions. I think mine lacked a bit of food coloring, which made them look worse than the Salt Tree, but eh.

1. Mix together your favorite sugar cookie recipe and create and dough. Split the dough in half (I did fourths as there was way more dough than I expected).

2.  Knead food coloring into one of doughs and leave the other plain.

3. Sprinkle flour on the table to prevent the dough from sticking to it and roll out the cookie dough with a rolling pin.

4. Spread some water over the top of the colored dough and place the non-colored dough on top.

5. Using a knife, cut the dough into an even rectangle so that both the top and bottom are the same size.

6. Roll up the dough into a log.

7. Wet the outside of the dough "log" and pour sprinkles on top. You can also spill the sprinkles on the table and roll the dough in it.

8. Wrap the dough in cling film and place in the fridge or freezer, ideally several hours, but one hour is fine.

9. Take a very thin knife and cut the log into cookies. Place on a greased baking sheet (or one with baking paper on it).

10. Cook according to the directions.

This is a great last minute Christmas cookie you can make with your family now that everyone is (for the most part) off of school or work!

    1. I'm kind of convinced the whole site only exists to make people feel badly about themselves.
