YouTube Community Rant

What exactly it is that pisses me off about the YouTube community.

  1. Hi Anna,
I watched your video this morning whilst getting ready. I completely stay away from commenting on youtube videos now as I have had people verbally attack me for writing an opinion on a video. I think the Youtube 'community' is appalling and some horrific things are written as comments on videos. Something I feel you find less of on blog posts. I think that's one reason why I wouldn't start a Youtube channel now because there is so much hate on there and no sense of friendship what so ever. It's a massive shame such a huge platform is vandalised by these childish and hateful commenters

    1. What? People have verbally attacked you? That is so ridiculous. It is your opinion and you should be allowed to express it how you wish to. So obnoxious that they've deterred you from the platform.

  3. Oh Anna, this was a very depressing video, but only because it's true.

I don't do Youtube myself but I do have a blog and it's the same story. I hardly get any visitors and no comments. I carry on anyway because I enjoy it. Anyway, that's not what I wanted to say. What I wanted to say is that even as an outsider on Youtube I get the same sense that you do of there being no community and people being rude and spamming the comments sections with links to their own videos etc. It's a shame it's become so commercialised and like modern day social climbing! You have to know the 'right' people, as you say.

I really do hope that you keep going though because I enjoy watching your videos. I don't do videos myself as I'm rubbish with technology and don't know how to, but if you're ever in the London area, I'd love to meet up and put in a cameo appearance LOL! Only problem is that I have precisely ZERO subscribers so you wouldn't gain anything!

This sounds like quite a snobbish and elitist thing to say, but truthfully Anna I think you're a lot more intelligent than the average member of the youtube audience, you're very well educated for a start. I'm NOT saying to 'dumb down' but it may be a factor....I mean, do the other big Youtube stars do videos on feminism etc?

    1. Haha fair enough. Laci Green does, but she is a pretty small minority. Either way, I'm trying to do something a bit different besides clog up the Internet with the same old mediocre make-up routines (especially because I know I'm not great at make-up). Thanks for taking the time to respond though! xx
