The Zoella Beauty range has been highly anticipated amongst the teen and preteen set, so right off the bat I am not really in the range's target demographic. However, having followed the famous blogger for a couple of years now, I was curious as to what her range actually consisted of. All reviews thus far (or most) have come from well-established bloggers who were invited to her launch and therefore are unanimously positive. I was interested in trying the products myself and seeing what they were actually made of.
Knowing the beauty line isn't really intended for my age category, I decided to only get two items: the "Creamy, Madly, Dreamy" lotion and the "Soak Opera" body wash/bubble wash. You can see the full range on Zoe's blog here.
First up- Lotion: Creamy, Madly, Dreamy Lotion
I'd used the lotion several times before making a decision. It is essentially colorless and smells, to me, a bit like a mix of fruit, baby shampoo and laundry detergent. The scent is a bit too light for me, as I prefer darker notes. The lotion itself is fine, in that it doesn't do intense moisturizing but it also doesn't flake off. I found it also didn't really soak in well and at one point had to wipe it off with a paper towel.
Body Wash: Soak Opera

This is one of those clever body washes that doubles as bubble bath. Since I've just had my operation, I'm not allowed to soak in a tub yet, so I skipped that portion. The scent of the body wash is similar to the lotion: it smells very light, floral and fruity with a hint of baby shampoo. The body wash, neither impressed me nor didn't impress me. It wasn't fabulous or horrible, it cleaned my body, but I wasn't left with a scent I was in love with, but that's just me.
The Verdict
Would I recommend Zoella Beauty to a friend? No. Would I actively not recommended them? No. I think the products are fine, but they are nothing special or groundbreaking. I believe they are selling so much due to the Zoella name recognition than anything else. While the scent isn't for me, that's just personal. To me, it just feels a bit young. I may use the body wash, but I may give it away to a younger neighbor of mine who would likely end up enjoying them a lot more than I would.

Very honest of you! This is why I have a hard time trusting some bloggers haha I second guess everything they say!
ReplyDeleteYeah it can be difficult when people are compensated and/or are close personal friends of the person who put it out. If my best friend put out a line, I would totally be telling everyone it was amazing, even if it wasn't.
DeleteThe body mist spray thingy has been getting a lot of positive comments around the blogosphere. I'd like to try that but none of the other bits. The make up bag was cute, but at my age I'd be too embarrassed to have a Zoella make up/wash bag - if I was gonna go for something similar like the eyes, I'd probably go higher end and get a Lulu Guinness ones!
ReplyDeleteYeah I've heard that about the Body Mist. I haven't really been out since it came out due to my operation so I haven't had a chance to smell it in Superdrug. I am pretty picky about body mist though, so I was pretty sure I would hate it. ha. xx

DeleteMy daughter is Zoella mad and I was thinking of getting her these products as gift, but your review has made me re-think. I think I may opt for things like the make-up bag instead. Thank you for an honest review xx
