Down the Rabbit Hole...a Day Out in Oxford

One thing I love about living in England is that you can just whoosh away for a day somewhere that's still incredibly exotic to my American senses. Being a HUGE Alice in Wonderland fan (duh, check the name of my blog!), I was really excited to spend the day out in the birthplace of Alice.

One amazing place we visited was Christchurch in Oxford, which both partially inspired Harry Potter and served as much of the inspiration for Alice in Wonderland.

Can you imagine eating here every day for your meals?!

Lewis Carroll himself, with his real name, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson

The Alice in Wonderland window panes in Christchurch. If you look closely, you can see Alice characters in each of the panes (Alice, Queen of Hearts, Mad Hatter, White Rabbit, Dodo Bird...)

We were able to go to the Sheep Shop, where Alice went in Through the Looking Glass, which has since been converted to a store that sells 98% Alice merchandise. It is literally my dream store!

My parents (who were visiting) and I spoke to the owner who was extremely passionate about his store. And I can see why! It is adorable and chock full of Alice treasures! I kind of wanted to buy them all, but I decided not to go too crazy. Here's the exterior to Alice's Shop: (You can shop online if anything tempts you!)

Although pictures are not allowed in the store, they were kind enough to email me over a few for use on my blog. The pictures belong to Alice's Shop and may not be reprinted without express permission from the owner.

I highly recommend Oxford for those of you interested in all things history, whether you're English and just haven't been or if you're on holiday here in the UK.

Alice in Wonderland is one of my all time favorites. That's awesome that you got to go spend a day in Oxford. Those tote bags are adorable :)
