5 Affordable and Clever Last Minute Halloween Costumes

Halloween is just around the corner and you may fear the horror of being caught without a costume. Don't worry, I've got you covered with five quick, simple and cheap costumes.

1. Orange is the New Black

Simply laminate your own ID card, throw on your fake tats and party like you're in Litchfield! (Glasses optional, unless you're going for the Alex look.)

Being a woman in the Big House not your style? Read on!

2. Freudian Slip
This is a super easy borderline sexy costume for those who want to dip their toe into the sexy Halloween revelry but are too afraid to go full out. It's also great as a very last minute idea, as you can get everything in less than 10 minutes at your local Tesco/Target. With this costume, you'll be rocking the puns either by writing the name "Freud" on your sticky note and sticking it to your slip, or using various "Freudisms" (like id, super ego, Oedipus Complex, oral fixation, etc.). Easy and clever!

3. Angela from Neenah

If you haven't heard of Angela from Neenah, you need to sit yourself down and watch this little video here. Angela from Neenah is probably the most upset I have ever seen someone over Bath and Body Works candles. This viral meme even gave birth to a hilarious re-enactment that is probably even funnier than the original. Unfortunately, Peach Bellini candles don't come in the same packaging anymore, so you'll  have to grab a retro one from Amazon or eBay.
 1. Hanes Women's Ecosmart Fleece Hooded Sweatshirt ($12 for the Navy)
2. Packers Tee ($15.99)
3. Essie Licorice Nail Polish ($5.75)
4. Bath and Body Works Peach Bellini Candle (with old school packaging $29.99)

4. A Sim

This is probably best for if you're totally lazy or totally cheap or not really into the Halloween spirit, or just want to wear something to answer to door for trick-or-treaters. It can also work well for a really last minute DIY. Now in its 4th generation, The Sims life simulator is recognized the world over. Within the game, Sims have plumbobs floating over their heads to indicate their moods or that they are the ones currently in game play. Pop one on your head and wear whatever you'd like. You can be a policewoman, schoolgirl, angel, or just yourself. Wilton makes a version of the Plumbob that lights up, but it is pretty flimsy from the reviews. Still, you can purchase one yourself, or you can use iHasCupquake's tutorial to make your own (recommended).

Get the look:
1. Light-Up Plumbob and Headband ($19)

For a bit of added flair, go as a naked Sim by taking two cardboard slats, drawing squares with a pencil and coloring them in with four different colors of paint or markers. Attach with string and a stapler to keep the costume on.

5. Rosie the Riveter

Be a badass this Halloween by representing one of the best feminist icons of history (albeit fictional). You can likely pull most of this out of your closet (a denim jacket or navy blue blouse, a pair of jeans, a bandana and some red lipstick)--and if not, you can always grab some of it either out of a friend's or the thrift store.

1. Prototype Women's Military Style Button Up With Patches ($9.99)
3. Ekberg Women's Bat Wing Sleeve Single Breasted Jacket ($15.03)
4. Jollychic Women's Vintage Style Cute Denim Jackets One Size Blue ($18.99)
5. Red Bandana ($2.99)

  3. I am in serious need of these suggestions, being an inmate would be soooo easy! These are great suggestions, Anna!

My boyfriend and I are also loving the Sims idea, too. That would be remarkably simple, and perfect at my company, which is ALL about video games.
